Pete Oxford

Pete Oxford, a British biologist, has, since childhood, been a passionate naturalist. His aim in life was always to travel widely in the company of wildlife. After guiding for many years (with his South African wife and Photographic partner, Reneé Bish) repeatedly on all continents to some of the world’s most pristine and remote wildlife destinations they decided that they should work as a full time professional photographic team and travel on their own timetable doing what they love most.

Since then Pete’s images have appeared in all the major magazines of the world in the field including: National Geographic, BBC Wildlife, International Wildlife, Smithsonian, Geo Time and Airone as well as featuring ten times in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards. Pete and Reneé have published nine books, all on Ecuadorian subjects, where they have lived for 24 and 17 years respectively. They like to work on mostly conservation related subjects in the hope that the power of the image will help further conservation efforts around the world. Two works-in-progress are a book on Mongolia and another on Madagascar.

Lately they are taking a direction to document many of the world’s indigenous populations in the belief that in order to conserve wildlife and biodiversity one has to help and understand the people who live in closest contact to it. Their latest work is a conservation orientated book on the Galapagos islands in Ecuador written by the now ex-director of the Charles Darwin Foundation and with a foreword by HRH Prince Phili. Pete is a Founder Fellow of the prestigious International League of Conservation Photographers.
