Uri Golman

Uri Golman is a full time nature- and wildlife photographer specialized in the Arctic with a strong focus on communicating local conservation. He has published three books. Two on Greenland and the Arctic since 2007, the latest of those being Arctic Light – Photographs from Greenland and the Frozen North. The third and most recent book called Tiger Spirit took Uri to India where he worked photographing wildlife species like the enigmatic tiger, the Indian one horned rhino, the Asiatic lion and the elusive leopard. This book deals with the conservation of these four key species and is a powerful and reminder of what we stand to loose unless we take action now. His articles from around the world are most often published in Danish natural history magazines and he is also a popular speaker holding several talks around the country each year. Currently he is working on a project in Iceland called The Arctic Fox Project partnering with National Geographic Nordic, Canon and The Arctic Fox Center.

In 2008 and 2009 Canon Denmark chose Uri Golman as the Danish Canon Ambassador because of his work with photography and focus on Conservation in the Arctic. Uri Golman is also an associate member of the ILCP (International League of Conservation Photographers)

Type of photography: Nature, Conservation and Wildlife photographer
Favorite Camera and Lens: Canon 1D MkII and Canon EF 500mm USM IS 4.0
Favorite Tripod set: I guess that would be the sturdy GT5541LS with the GH5380SQR head.
Activity: I shoot photographic reportages mostly for magazines, books and stock. But generally I get my own ideas and then create the story. That way I can follow my heart and work with the conservation issues that I think are important to communicate.

Quote: In conservation today an image says more than 1000 words, but action says more than 1000 images. So as photographers we have an obligation to take action and create images that lead to more action.
Publications: Greenland Images of Arctic Nature 2007
Arctic Light – A journey trough Greenland and the Frozen North (Globe 2009)
Tiger Spirit (Arktos 2010)
Product Testimonial: As a nature photographer I often travel to destinations far off the beaten track. I often have to walk for long distances whether on cross country skis or by foot carrying all my equipment by myself. So I need things to be lightweight, durable and trustworthy. That is why I have chosen Gitzo.

Canon 1Ds MkIII and 1D MkIV
EF 500mm 4.0 IS USM lens
EF 70-200mm 2.8 IS USM lens
EF 24-70mm 2.8 USM lens
EF 100mm 2.8 macro lens
Lighting Equipment:
I only use 3 pairs of 580 EX flashes and a pocket wizard to control them. Otherwise I just use existing light of spending hours or even days waiting for the right situation and the right light to happen. That’s how it is in nature photography.
